Two methods are described for the solution of the general problem of the motion of a meteoroid in the atmosphere with variable drag and ablation coefficients. The second method is applied to observations of four bright bolides photographed by the European and Prairie networks bolide stations. An analysis is made of the variation of the drag, ablation, and heat-transfer coefficients in the flight of fast and slow bolides. It is shown that as the speed of the bolide decreases to 10 km/sec and less, a significant part of the mass loss takes place because of melting and the blow-off of the melted layer.
