A new method for determining [Fe/H] is proposed. The study of a sample of F and G dwarfs with [Fe/H] determined homogeneously at high dispersion shows that the precision of this new method is equivalent to the best existing methods. Moreover, it presents numerous advantages, in particular its rapidity, sensitivity and independence with respect to interstellar reddening.
