The aim of the present paper is to solve the problem of the use of measured hourly echo rates for obtaining the cross-section patterns of a meteor shower without theoretical corrections for the response function of the radar. Apart from the stream profile, the iterative regression method applied to long-term observations yields relative response function coefficients, the variation of the sporadic complex activity and the change of the shower level within the observation period. The method is demonstrated on the 1958-1978 Ondřejov radar observations of the Geminid meteor shower where the ≥0.4 s group of echo duration was analysed.
