Attention is given to an empirical formula which can be used to predict the behavior of a comet. There are, however, a number of processes which cannot be taken into consideration. Such processes can produce unexpected phenomena related to a partition of the nucleus or eruptions. The observations of the comet West (1975n) are compared with predicted light curves.
