The accuracy characteristics of the main solutions to date for the secular variations of the earth's orbital elements are examined. Computations covering over two million years in time steps of one thousand years were made by computer in order to determine the influence of additional terms on these solutions. From this analysis the characteristics of a new solution are proposed. This solution includes, for both (e, pi) and (i, Omega) systems, terms depending on the second power of the disturbing masses and on the third power of the planetary eccentricities and inclinations.
