Spectroscopic observations of 14 galaxies in Abell 401 are reported. An
analysis of data for the cluster's radio-tail galaxy strongly implies
the presence of in situ particle acceleration in the radio tail. The
cluster velocity dispersion, 2410 km/sec, agrees well with the value
predicted by Solinger and Tucker from the cluster's X-ray luminosity.
