Observations at 8 GHz over a two-year period show significant variations in the circular polarization of 3C 84 and 3C 273. The degree of circular polarization indicates a magnetic-field strength which is consistent with VLBI specific-intensity observations, but the agreement may be coincidental, at least in the case of 3C 273. The present observations imply that linear-to-circular conversion is responsible for the circular polarization of 3C 273.
