In the standard cosmological model, symmetry-breaking in grand unified theories will occur at times of about 10 to the -39th s after the initial singularity when the universe has cooled to a temperature of about 10 to the 16th GeV. Whether it is possible for a uniform, large-scale, magnetic field present in the early universe to delay significantly the time at which symmetry breaking occurs is investigated. Given the present magnitude of the intergalactic B-field (less than about 10 to the -11th to 10 to the -9th G) it is found that no significant effects are introduced.
