The propagation of a shock wave from a supernova explosion in an interstellar medium with exponential density distribution law is considered. Particular attention is devoted to taking into account the effect of volume energy losses on the dynamics of the shock front. It is shown that the maximal height above the plane of the Galaxy which the shock wave can reach is roughly 800 pc. About 10 percent of the explosion energy is expended on heating the interstellar gas.
