Multiple light scattering by free electrons is accepted as the possible cause of visual polarization of quasars. It is assumed that scattering takes place in a slab, for example in an accretion disk. The degree of polarization of emergent radiation is computed for two types of energy sources: a) uniform distribution of embedded sources and b) the point source in a middle plane of slab. In computations the authors account for true absorption in Balmer continuum which is essential for quasars with large z. Using tabulated values of the degree of polarization the interpretation of the spectral polarization variations is given. For quasar PHL 5200 estimates of geometrical thickness of the disk (≡1013cm) and electron density (≡1011cm-3) are given. These variations may also be caused by pure electron scattering in the plane slab when temperature varies with depth.
