Spectroscopic observations of the flaring star V654Her are presented. There is no emission in the hydrogen Balmer lines, and the Ca II H and K lines are in absorption. TiO bandheads are weak in the star, implying a higher photospheric temperature than in the red dwarf flare star AD Leo. The spectral type of V654Her is K. The Ca I 4226 A absorption line, characteristic of red dwarf stars and dominating in the spectrum of AD Leo, is at best only weakly present. A depression between 4100 and 4200 A in the spectrum of V654Her may be produced by the CN molecule; this is characteristic of a giant. CaH at 6385 A is present in AD Leo but absent in V654Her; according to Robertson (1984), this feature is seen in dwarfs but never in giants. It is concluded that V654Her is a giant rather than a dwarf.
