Helium Cataclysmic Variables
Scientific paper
The so-called AM CVn systems, or Interacting Binary DB White Dwarf stars, have grown from four members in 1992 to twelve in 2003; five out of the eight new discoveries being found during the 21st century. Also, the observational properties of these systems show nowadays a widespread and unexpected range of characteristics, which seems to confirm the existence of "subclasses" within the group. Three objects at least show X-ray emission. A brief review of the recent findings for this peculiar group among the Cataclysmic Variables is here presented.
