Wavelet Transform, Vq Coding, Lgb, Image Compression

Based on WT (wavelet transform), a scheme for image data compression is presented. Firstly, in this method, the image is decomposed in multi-resolution by WT, and then, considering the fact that the importance and the energy contained in those bands are different, different coding methods are applied to different frequency bands. By this way the conflict between CR (compression ratio) and system hardware performance that arise when using VQ (Vector Quantization) coding method can be avoided effectively, for higher CR needs larger vector dimensions, as a result, larger memory and higher searching speed for suited vector during decoding process are required. At the same time, compared with JPEG scheme, the image quality has progressed.
