The theory of second-order discontinuities has been applied to magnetic-field and plasma measurements by spacecraft to model the structure of interplanetary flows from chromospheric flares. Refinements are suggested for the model proposed by Hundhausen in 1972. Measurements of magnetic-field intensity, electrons, and energetic protons by the Geos 2 spacecraft and of the cosmic-ray intensity at Irkutsk are considered. The present level of knowledge of the structure of plasma flows can be used for further research on the interplanetary medium and for refining our conceptions of the cosmic and geophysical effects of the solar wind.
