An objective prism (diameter 61 cm) has been designed and built for low-dispersion spectral classification with a Schmidt telescope. The prism allows the recognition of certain natural spectral-type groups up to photographic magnitude 16.0, and should therefore be a valuable tool in spectral surveys of the Magellanic Clouds, and of other selected regions of the sky.
