Terrestrial observations and photometric measurements of the Zond-6 and Apollo-13 pictures were used to compile an albedo map of 80% of the lunar surface. Using the ratios Al/Si and Mg/Si, the dependence of the albedo on the chemical composition of the lunar material and its relationship with the crystallizational age of lunar rocks were determined. Results indicate that the lunar surface albedo reflects significant features of the lunar globe structure. On the basis of brightness measurements, the established relations among the albedo, the chemical composition, and the stratigraphy of the lunar rocks allow an evaluation of the indicated characteristics of the lunar surface in the first approach and an extrapolation of significant information in restricted regions.
