The processes of gamma quanta generation in the interaction of cosmic ray nucleons and electrons with matter and radiation are studied. It is shown that the observed flux of gamma quanta and its distribution as a function of galactic latitude and longitude reveal that the main source of gamma radiation with energy above 100 MeV is the decay of neutral pions produced during interactions between cosmic radiation and matter.
