The stellar and gas components of the H II region NGC 5471 in M101 are
investigated on the basis of spectroscopy and photometry carried out in
1977. The stars in NGC 5471 have a combined mass of approximately
500,000 solar masses; an upper limit on the mass of ionized gas is about
2 million solar masses.
