It is established that, in contrast to Einstein's theory, in the
cosmological equations of the theory by Brans and Dicke the spatial
component of the field equations follows from the remaining equations
and the conservation law Tikjk =0 only if one excludes the power law
ç1 R-2. Some consequences are discussed
