A very simple mathematical description of the heating process for a gravitationally unstable disk of stars is presented. Equations are derived which completely describe the heating process that results from the buildup of gravitational instability in a gravitating disk of stars. It is shown that the heating process serves to suppress the instability and that the relaxation time for a specific analytical example amounts to about 1.5 revolutions of the disk.
