Rogers' (1977) analysis of spectroscopic data for 27 selected RR Lyrae variables in two Palomar-Groningen fields indicated that the stars concerned are more or less equally distributed on either side of the Galactic center. It is noted that this result is not readily understood in the light of present ideas about Galactic structure and that there is no other evidence in support of the observation. An attempt is made to resolve this problem with the aid of a preliminary calibration of the absolute magnitudes of nearby RR Lyrae stars as a function of two parameters referred to only as delta S(asterisk) and log P. A revised spatial distribution is obtained for the stars measured by Rodgers, and it is shown that most of these stars are situated between the sun and the Galactic center. The earlier impression of a more or less equal distribution on either side of the center is regarded as almost certainly false and is attributed to errors in the distances estimated by Rodgers.
