A long-baseline interferometer has been employed to detect weak radio flares from the red dwarf YZ CMi. Use of a background source as a phase reference made it possible to conduct integrations of indefinite length, an essential feature for observations of the sporadic and transient red dwarf flares. A notable flare centered at 408 MHz exhibited an energy of 2.8 times 10 to the 18th power J, which may be compared to the radio energy of about 1.2 times 10 to the 14th power J emitted by large solar flares in the same band.
