It is suggested that Narain and Kumar's (1985) critique of Antiochos and Sturrock's (1976) work concerning the heating and cooling in active region loops incorrectly equates various situations which are not the same, and draws various unreliable conclusions. It is noted that Narain and Kumar on the one hand do not take the radiation loss into account in obtaining the electron density, and on the other hand find the radiation loss to be comparable to the conduction loss. Furthermore, Narain and Kumar derive an energy generation to radiation loss ratio value of about 3 x 10 to the 6th which strongly contradicts the basic condition of Rosner et al. (1978).
