In an attempt to use the emission-line variability of the Seyfert 1 galaxy Akn 120 to improve estimates of the size of the broadline region, new closely spaced spectroscopic observations have been obtained. While these data reveal no lag between the continuum and Hβ light curves, it is emphasized that this does not necessarily imply that the line emitting region is extraordinarily small: during the period this galaxy was observed, the amplitude of the continuum variability was so low as to negate the improvement in the temporal resolution. These data are nevertheless useful in (1) establishing an absolute calibration for archival Akn 120 spectra by determining the flux in the narrow [O III] λ5007 line, (2) determining a photometric light curve dating back to 1974 from archival photometric and spectrophotometric data, and (3) establishing useful Balmer-line template profiles during a quiescent period longer than the light-travel time across the broadline region.
