The present attempt to identify the presence of stellar oscillations in Beta Hyi employs the ESO Coude Echelle Spectrometer high-resolution spectrograph, which is fed by an optical-fiber device. The ratio R (the flux in the line cores divided by the flux in the continuum) is determined, as a scintillation-insensitive indicator of oscillations at a level higher than the oscillations in the total luminosity. Due to detector problems, however, only an upper limit was found for these amplitudes; this limit corresponds to a few times 0.00001 in the luminosity.
