A color-magnitude diagram for the globular cluster NGC 6266, which contains 80 known RR Lyrae variables, is obtained from 290 stars measured by means of an iris photometer on seven yellow and ten blue plates. Calibration is based on a photoelectric sequence of 23 stars with visual magnitudes ranging from 8.51 to 16.72. The main features of the CM diagram are shown to be a considerably scattered giant branch of medium steepness in the magnitude range from 13 to 16 and the (B-V) color range from 1.3 to 2.1 mag as well as a dispersed horizontal branch evenly populated around a visual magnitude of about 16. An asymptotic branch in the (B-V) range from 1.3 to 1.7 mag and an instability strip in the (B-V) range from 0.61 to 0.89 mag are also suggested. A reddening difference of about 0.25 mag is deduced between the NW and SE sectors, and a reddening of about 0.50 mag is adopted for the less obscured NW region. Distances of 5.7 kpc from the sun, 0.7 kpc from the galactic plane, and 3.6 kpc from the galactic center are deduced for the cluster.
