The hypothesis of the gasdynamical ejection from the earth of asteroid-sized bodies (with a diameter up to 1 km) due to chance hyperimpacts with energy greater than 1-million Mt TNT equivalent is presented. According to the hypothesis, such impacts onto continents take place with a mean interval of 25-30 Myr. It is suggested that the terrestrial origin of certain AAA asteroids explains the duration (about 3 Myr) and the stepwise pattern of the 30-Myr extinctions. This hypothesis also clarifies the source of SNC meteorites and removes problems caused by their supposed Martian origin.
