Three bright (r = 17.4, 17.7, and 18.2) quasars with high redshifts (z = 3.4, 3.7, and 3.5) have been located from an accurately calibrated optical survey in five wavebands. The completeness of the survey is about 50 percent at r less than 18.5 and the corrected surface density of quasars with r between 17 and 18.5 and z between 3.4 and 4.1 is 0.02-0.08/sq deg, lower than, but not significantly different from, estimates based on emission-line surveys for such quasars. The luminosity function of luminous quasars at high redshift has the same amplitude as at a redshift of about 2.
