A search was made in the earth's mantle for relict isotopes of neon, helium, and argon of cosmic-ray origin. The study involved the analysis of isotope and element ratios of these gases in basic rocks of the ocean bottom and in hydrothermal zones of volcanic formations. An interpretation of the isotope composition reveals the presence of cosmogenic matter (i.e., of galactic and solar corpuscular origin). The study makes it possible to conclude that during planetary accretion the level of solar activity did not differ from the present level. In addition, the cosmic ray intensity during accretion did not differ from the mean value now detected in meteorites.
