The spectroscopical and morphological properties of seven systems of interacting galaxies appearing blue on the PSS prints, are discussed. All galaxies contain ionized gas, sometimes highly excited and often extending over large parts of the systems. A few of the galaxies, perhaps as a consequence of the interaction, are found to have properties in common with galaxies with active nuclei. Although morphological peculiarities are common, the presence of emission lines seems to be almost independent of morphological type. It is suggested that the blue excess originates from hot stars, and/or, especially in the case of the halos of the galaxies, from shock heated gas of low metal content, following from the merging of the gaseous halos of the components. In two cases the components seem to have merged completely.
