Moderately high resolution spectral observations of the nucleus of the galaxies NGC 7496 and NGC 7582 show that the profiles of the emission lines are complex. These observations are consistent with the existence in these nuclei of both a H II region and a Seyfert-like nebulosity. A faint Seyfert-like nebulosity may be hidden by a strong H II region in the nucleus of late-type galaxies where such H II regions are common. A careful study of the profile of the emission lines may reveal such emission clouds, which are not photoionized by hot stars and, therefore, are a sign of some activity in the galaxy centre
