Composite images of the inner coma of comet P/Halley in the OH and NH ultraviolet bands are constructed using the monochromatic charts obtained by the three-channel spectrometer on board Vega 2 during the March 9 approach session. The dust continuum component is removed in subtracting a solar type spectrum and assuming that the albedo remains constant with wavelength between 275 and 400 nm. OH and NH emission images show two well-contrasted jets, one in the sun's direction and a stronger jet in a perpendicular direction. A detailed view of the NH image indicates that the release of gas might occur in a recurrent process. A comparison between the OH and NH images is performed, and the similarity with the CN jets that is deduced from ground observations is discussed. Finally, it is suggested that the gaseous jets differentiate progressively and that the radiation pressure plays an important part in this process.
