MAGIC-the Major Atmospheric Gamma-ray Imaging Cherenkov Observatory at La Palma (28.80 N, 17.80 W, 2220 m asl) comprises two 17-meter diameter imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes (IACTs)-MAGIC-1, which has been taking data since 2004, and MAGIC-2, whose construction is nearly completed. MAGIC-1 is currently the largest and technologically most advanced single-dish IACT. Together with H.E.S.S. on the southern hemisphere, the MAGIC Telescope has recently opened a new window in the spectrum of cosmic electromagnetic radiation, between 50 and 250 GeV.
In this general review of MAGIC we will present the latest results on the observation of galactic and extragalactic sources, as well as some other phenomena. We will particularly emphasize the measurements of various short-time transient and periodic phenomena. Such measurements may be provided exclusively by IACTs thanks to the large effective collection area. The results to be presented include the discovery of variable high-energy gamma-ray emission from the microquasar LSI +61 303, capture of Gamma Ray Bursts, the detection of the shortest ever observed gamma-ray flare - from Mkn 501, the measurement of time variations of other AGNs, new sources, upper limits on pulsed gamma-ray emission from pulsars, and current upper limits on the existence of some other predicted phenomena.
