New identifications of ˜2200 Fe I lines between 1700 Å and 5 μm (59 000 cm-1 -2000 cm-1) due to highly-excited configurations are presented. These have been observed in hollow cathode lamps using Fourier transform and grating spectroscopy. About 1700 of the lines have been observed in the solar spectrum. A companion paper presents the experimental energy levels.
