It has been well established that stellar activity decreases with the age of the star. Unlike young stars, where large flares are routinely found, both the X-ray luminosity as well as the frequency and intensity of flares decreases as a star ages on the main sequence. Here we describe a counter-example to the general trend, where a remarkably strong flare is seen in an old active binary during Chandra/ACIS observations of the globular cluster 47 Tuc (Heinke et al. 2005, ApJ 625, 796). The flare reaches a luminosity as high as 1032 ergs/s, reminiscent of superflare luminosities found with protostars (Grosso et al. 1997; Imanishi et al. 2001), and at temperatures that approach 100 MK. We carry out detailed spectroscopic analysis to determine the physical structure and energetics of the flaring.
