We propose to monitor the nonthermal continuum emission from the core of the nearby (and nearest: only 3.5 Mpc) radio source and AGN Centaurus A at 4 frequency pairs between 7.5 and 88 GHz. In this frequency range, the core components change from optically thick to optically thin. However, monitoring the millimeter-wave emission in the 90-345 GHz range has shown that (a) the core emission is variable on timescales of a few months, (b) resembling the 20-200 keV X-ray variability, and (c) with a spectrum steepening as intensity increases. The multifrequency monitoring proposed here will reveal the pattern of spectral index and spectral turnover change, shedding light on the sequence of events during core outbursts and providing valuable information on the emission mechanisms. This is very timely, as the Cen A core is presently in a restless phase. The strong core emission will be easy to separate from the extended emission of the radio source.
