We present our optical variability survey for low-luminosity active galactic nuclei (AGN) with Subaru Suprime-Cam. We found that a significant fraction of variable AGN are not detected in deep x-ray data and about half of them can be low-luminosity AGN at z˜0.5. We also show a strong potential of optical variability as a tracer of high-z low-luminosity faint quasars.
