We provide an overview and status report for DEEP, a Keck spectral survey aimed to explore the evolution of distant galaxies. An important outgrowth of DEEP is the successful development of one of its four regions of sky into a premier multiwavelength survey field (AEGIS). We highlight three recent results that showcase the advantages of having a deep panchromatic, panoramic, high spectral resolution view of galaxies during an important epoch of their formation and evolution at half the Hubble age.
