From a sample of 55 bright southern clusters of galaxies (ACO), 10 show a significant excess of close pairs, superpositions and possible mergers. The close pairs are typically observed as a combination of early and late elliptical galaxies considerably removed from the estimated cluster center on the plane of the sky. In some cases, low surface brightness shells of material are seen surrounding members of the pairs suggesting direct interactions. The clusters with the largest number of apparent multiple systems, ACO3705, ACOS0952 and ACO4038 are discussed in detail.
