Following the WKB approach for multicomponent fields for the analysis of short wave linear perturbations of Einstein's equations with matter as given by Ehlers and Prasanna (1996), we extend the matter model to that of a dispersive fluid with expansion and shear. The leading order dispersion relation yields two regular modes for gravitational and sound waves and an irregular matter mode. The transport equations for the amplitudes are derived and it is shown that the dispersive terms do appear even at the level of transport of primary amplitudes, as was found earlier by Madore (1973) and Anile and Pirronello (1978) for gravitational waves.
