Knowledge of the rates of coalescence of close binaries with two compact objects are of major importance for determining the probability of detecting graviational waves from such binaries. We present ways of constraining the expected coalescence rates of double neutron srars based both on the properties of the observed systems and on modeling the orbital dynamics of their immediate progenitors as affected by the second supernova explosion.
