The status of recent measurements of the deuterium abundance from the Lyman limit systems is reviewed and a new analysis of the D absorption in spectra of QSOs 1718+4807, 1009+2956, and 1937-1009 is presented. The analysis is based on the mesoturbulent model accounting for possible coherence in the bulk motions (non-Gaussian radial velocity distributions). The new approach leads to a single primordial value of D/H ~= (3.5 - 5) times 10^{-5} (2 sigma C.L.) instead of `low' and `high' D/H ratios obtained within the usual microturbulent approximation which disregards correlations in the large scale velocity field. This result supports homogeneous models of BBN yielding a cosmological baryon-to-photon ratio eta ~= (3.6 - 5.2) times 10^{-10}, which corresponds to Omega_b h^2100 ~= 0.01 - 0.02.
