The gamma-ray blazar PKS 0528+134 has been observed several times simultaneously by the CGRO experiments COMPTEL and EGRET, which cover the energy range 750 keV to 20 GeV. Combining the COMPTEL and EGRET spectra of the first 3.5 years of their mission reveals spectral variability of this blazar at gamma-rays. During gamma-ray high (flaring) states observed by EGRET above 100 MeV, a spectral break at about 10 MeV is obvious. However, during gamma-ray low states (non-flaring) the combined spectrum is consistent with a simple power-law model. This spectral behaviour is consistent with the appearence of an additional spectral component at energies above roughly 3 MeV, and can be explained by a variation of the Doppler beaming factor in the framework of a relativistic jet model for AGN, which combines the external - and synchrotron-self Compton scattering model.
