The Italian-Dutch satellite BeppoSAX observed Cygnus X-1 in 1996 three times. During the first two observations the source was in soft spectral state, while during the third observation it was going back to its normal hard state. In this talk we will compare the spectral properties of the source in these two states and we discuss the impact of these results on the models of X-ray emission from Cygnus X-1.
