The Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE), by the combination of the Proportional Counter Array (PCA) and the High Energy X-ray Timing Experiment (HEXTE) offers for the first time the opportunity to observe neutron star systems with good sensitivity, simultaneously from X-rays to hard X-rays (from 2 to 150 keV). In this paper, we report on the results of a combined PCA and HEXTE spectral analysis of the observations of three X-ray bursters; namely 1E1724-3045 in the Globular cluster Terzan 2, SLX1735-369 and GS 1826-24. These systems have the common property of being persistent hard X-ray sources at energies above 30 keV. Based on these results, we compare their hard X-ray spectral properties with those of black hole candidates, and further discuss on possible ways of distinguishing neutron star from black hole systems on the basis of their broad-band spectral properties.
