I will discuss the different models for the decay of the braking torque acting on isolated pulsars and review the possibilities of distinguishing between the models from near future timing of pulsars. I will also briefly discuss the physics of the spin-up of recycled pulsars and discuss the spin evolution of pulsars in the context of the P-dot{P} diagram.
