After motivating pre-big bang inflation as a natural outcome of string
cosmology, I will describe its most important observational
consequences, including: i) an interestingly large gravitational-wave
background; ii) a new mechanism for seeding cosmic magnetic fields; iii)
a new source of large-scale structure and CMB anisotropy.
