Coordinated photometry and spectroscopy of the luminous blue variable (LBV), P Cygni, is presented as part of an effort to obtain a better understanding of the star's mass-loss mechanism and evolutionary status. P Cygni's behavior is different from that of other S Dor variables and LBVs and it seems to require a different mass-loss mechanism to explain the observations.
