The Hubble Space Telescope will have a resolution greatly superior to that obtainable with ground-based telescopes. This will allow the resolution of many galaxies into stars and thus enable improved calibration and increased accuracy in determining cosmological distances. Sandage and Bedke (1985) have compiled an atlas of those galaxies which are the best candidates for the resolution of their stellar content. The distance indicators which should be resolvable with the HST are briefly discussed here.
