As we prepare new high-energy missions, the face of astronomy is being changed by ongoing and soon-to-be implemented wide area optical surveys. In this talk I will discuss some examples of possible synergy between high-energy space-based missions and ground-based optical surveys. I will demonstrate how both can be used to study stellar remnants and to learn more about mass transfer binaries and about their progenitors and their descendants.
